AI Governance for Youth and Society | United Nations Side Event
On February 6, Julia Stoyanovich, spoke at a United Nations side event during the 64th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD64) titled “Shaping the AI Future: Ethical and Inclusive AI Governance for Youth and All.”
In her presentation, “The Joys of Doing, Learning and Being,” Prof. Stoyanovich reflected on what it means to grow up and pursue knowledge in an age of increasingly capable AI systems. Drawing on the animated short Happy Birthd-AI from the Center’s Algorithmia series, she discussed how powerful AI tools can support learning while also raising questions about overreliance on automation.
The talk emphasized the importance of preserving curiosity, creativity, and human judgment as AI becomes more embedded in everyday life, particularly for young people navigating education and technology in a rapidly evolving digital environment.
